You spent thousands on a new Garmin. Now you want a neon yellow band. Do you buy the $50 original or the $2 AliExpress version? Is there even a real difference?

I tested six QuickFit 22 bands — original and third-party — across comfort, looks, weight, and price.

Original Band (Came with the Watch)

Comfort: Comfortable, gets slightly annoying during heavy sweat — standard silicone behavior.

Mechanism: Excellent QuickFit release — easy press to remove, snap on to attach.

Look: Black front / grey back. Neutral, solid, works for sport and office alike.

Weight: 22g — mostly the metal mechanism.

Price: Came with the watch; replacement on the official importer site ~$50.

Verdict: Nothing to fault here. Durable, versatile, generational Fenix standard.

Original Replacement Band (Neon Yellow)

Comfort: Nearly identical to the original — no meaningful difference.

Mechanism: Excellent, same as original.

Look: Neon yellow — you either love it or you don’t. Lets you make a fashion statement, even an odd one.

Weight: 24g — 2g heavier than the original for unclear reasons.

Price: ~$50.

Verdict: Love it for the color, but if you don’t need a specific color, stick with the original.

AliExpress Band #1 (Original Lookalike)

Comfort: Comfortable and soft, hard to feel the difference while wearing.

Mechanism: Problematic. Very hard to press, nail-breaking, doesn’t sit flush on the watch, gets stuck. Doesn’t inspire confidence it’ll stay on long-term.

Look: Nearly identical to the original — until you wash it. My wife complained the entire sink turned neon yellow. The mechanism also started losing color and crumbling. Metal? Apparently not.

Weight: 25g — heavier than the original it’s imitating.

Price: Under $5.

Verdict: No. The mechanism is terrible, it bleeds color, and it fell open on me mid-activity. Think about what happens if that opens during an open-water triathlon — there goes your $600 watch.

AliExpress Band #2 (Dark Blue Silicone)

Comfort: The most comfortable silicone band I’ve tried.

Mechanism: Slightly stiffer than original but vastly better than the previous one.

Look: Dark solid blue — I don’t think Garmin even makes this color. Looks genuinely good.

Weight: 26g — heaviest of the silicone options.

Price: Under $5.

Verdict: Comfortable, looks good, very affordable. One caveat: the previous AliExpress band opened mid-activity, which makes me cautious about all third-party options. That said — proof that a good third-party band exists.

AliExpress Nylon Band

Comfort: Very comfortable, barely feels like anything — nicer material than silicone. Downside: very stiff, hard to fold, which makes it tricky to put on.

Mechanism: Very close to the original.

Look: Fabric/textile look — sporty and elegant at the same time if you like that style.

Weight: 25g.

Price: ~$12. For reference: the equivalent Garmin original nylon band runs $120–200 and I’ve never seen it sold locally.

Verdict: Didn’t blow me away, but I’d never pay full price for the original. This is a solid option.

Amazon Titanium Band

Comfort: Comfortable as a metal band, but not suitable for sport. Can’t picture myself running or swimming in this.

Mechanism: Virtually identical to the original — no difference felt.

Look: Stunning. Matches the titanium case perfectly, same tone. Transforms the watch from a sport tool to an elegant accessory. Got compliments at the office.

Weight: 46g — almost as heavy as the watch itself. Keep in mind you’re wearing a weight on your wrist all day.

Price: ~$50. The equivalent Garmin original: ~$300, not even available locally.

Verdict: Not for sport. Yes for meetings, office, events. Worth having one at home for the upgrade.

Summary

Third-party silicone bands feel surprisingly decent, but the QuickFit mechanisms are often problematic — and can be genuinely dangerous for intense sport like cycling or swimming. If that’s your use case, bite the bullet and buy original.

For gym and running — the risk is lower, and a good third-party band can work.

The nylon option is decent at a fraction of the price. The titanium band is the real gem — worth picking one up for occasions.
