What if an entire box of cycling gear — lights, gloves, shorts, everything — cost less than one pair of premium cycling shorts?
All of it came from AliExpress for around $70. One brand: ROCKBROS. Here’s the full breakdown.
The Idea
Instead of buying one expensive piece of gear, I tried to build a complete setup — from clothing to lighting — using only low-cost items.
What’s in the Kit
Face Mask — $2.99
The ROCKBROS Winter Balaclava. Fleece, windproof, designed for cold-weather rides. For three dollars, even if it just keeps bugs out of your face, it’s already worth it.
Arm Sleeves — $1.99
Ice silk arm sleeves — under two dollars. They claim UV protection and breathability. The real question: will they stay up, or slide down every five minutes?
Cycling Gloves — $8.12
Half-finger, shockproof, breathable. They look decent. The real test is padding and seam quality once you’re actually on the bike.
Cycling Shorts — $18.19
Padded cycling shorts — the most expensive clothing item in the haul. Eighteen dollars. Not expecting Rapha comfort, but if they don’t feel like cardboard, that’s a pass.
Rear Smart Taillight — $9.81
USB-C rechargeable, waterproof, and brake-sensing — it detects when you slow down and increases the flash rate. That’s a feature usually found in lights that cost three or four times more.
Front Headlight 1500LM — $29.47
The star of the kit. 1500 lumens, built-in 5000mAh battery, and temperature control. If it delivers anywhere near the advertised brightness for under $30, it’s a steal.
Total: ~$70
Face mask, arm sleeves, gloves, shorts, taillight, and a front headlight. A complete cycling setup for the price of a single high-end short.
